~~~ Does Your Post Count "count"? ~~~
The following is a sarcastic analysis of a message board that limits users who have less than 500 posts on that board...whether that limit is of official, unofficial or implied capacities in the mindsets of its own users. The more posts some users have, the more "discriminating" a select number of them are to those with low counts, often forgetting their own "roots" as well had to start somewhere...
If a tree falls in the forest and it has less than 500 rings...was it even ever really a tree?
If you “only” killed 499 critters in an online game...did you ever really play the game?
If a tree with 501 rings falls but the only other trees in the forest to witness it all have less than 500 rings...did the tree even really fall?
If it was the Indianapolis 450...would it still be a race and would anyone watch it?
If you have 250 posts, does your opinion really matter, and does anyone actually hear you?
If you batted 500 homeruns, did the other 499 only count once you finally reached 500?
If you watched and listened a lot more than you spoke up......should that make your words and post count any less valuable than a troll who's posted 10K times or more?
Every troll had to start somewhere. I know it took me forever to hit my first 500 posts on a message board (and my less than 5k count still made me an amateur compared to many), and back then 100 posts still “meant something.” Regardless of your own post count (for you amateur and professional trolls alike)...think back. How did/do you feel to know some of those more seasoned trolls would read your post count and basically ignore your comments because they considered a small post count to mean you were a clueless n00b. Didn't matter if maybe you read tons of posts and just either weren't comfortable posting, didn't feel like posting or were still "getting your feet wet," posting a little here and there on subjects that you felt were important or that you had something serious or entertaining to add.
Sometimes, trolls only speak to “hear the sound of their own voices”, whether the rest of us want to hear them or not. But why should their voices be heard any more loudly than the "fresh" voices of those who might have a unique viewpoint to bring...being that they may have observed a lot longer than their numbers indicate? No matter what message board system you use…does your post count "count" and what do you think of the "numbers"?
