OT: Motivations (of a Message Board User)
I troll and post for amusement. I'll bump some threads from time to time, but really don't post any of my own. I'm here for the interaction and amusement.
I'm influenced by whatever I find amusing, enlightening or stimulating to the mind - whether it's topic-related or not.
I'll post my opinions and thoughts when motivated regardless of the poster's ID, their standing in the community and their post count. I don't care if someone's popular or not, if motivated to post for humor or seriousness, I'll post. I wield all kinds of thoughts and ideas and I'm not afraid to use them! =p Sometimes, those may be ones many disagree with, but I'd much rather speak freely than hide behind a veil of silence because I feared perceptions of others.
I'd like to see more people posting in camaraderie and fun, and less of the worrying that a few OT posts or silly banter will get threads edited or locked. A small amount of "spam" and pharming can liven things up, so long as it’s mixed with some amount of content along the way...and I don't think it should matter whether you're a seasoned pro or a n00b poster. As long as you're not a ban evader, you shouldn't be afraid to post or troll. When I post, I know I like to see others respond, even if it's just a simple "LOL" on a humor thread, a silly or serious short reply or a lengthy posting of someone's views. It's the interaction that makes the boards enjoyable.
Some board moderation has me bite my tongue a little more sometimes than I might prefer, but it still doesn't kill my desire to post if I feel strongly enough on something. Or sometimes silly enough. Sometimes, I think people take things meant in good humor a little too seriously, taking offense rather than enjoying humor for what it's worth. Same with debates. Sometimes people tend to make way more of an issue of something by simply misinterpreting the tone of someone's words and immediately taking offense - easy to do when you can't see or hear "tone" as you can in voice chat. Maybe the boards could be a little more entertaining or conducive to discussions if people would loosen up a bit and be "interactive" rather than "reactive." (Not to worry...there's no moderation of ear licking yet! =p At least, not last time I checked, but then again…it’s been awhile. I’ve been on “holiday” from message board posting.)
When I post on issues, I say what I feel and/or think, whether my views or thoughts are popular or not. I don't "kiss butt" as it's just not "me." I may lick ears *licks your ear* and I may bite my tongue from time to time, but I'll pass on the butt kissing. I'd rather say what I feel and think, and hope others do as well, regardless of what anyone else may think of your views. Popularity is fleeting. If you can't be true to yourself, what's the point? Never let others dictate your feelings to you. They’re your feelings, views and posts. Pwn them, and...pwn up to them! *wide smile*
